Hygge Hut Development
A big part of our ethos here at St. Michael's is well being and mindfulness. From the babies right through to after school club, the children enjoy a wide range of experiences to support their curiosity, awe, wonder, social and emotional development. Treasure baskets, a variety of instrumental music, puppets, gardening, snipping herbs, talking about what we love about our life, making calming down jars, building a bug hotel, snacks in the garden and playing with clay are all things we do here to enjoy 'living in the moment' and 'being present' with each other.
We take elements of the Curiosity Approach, use loose parts for open ended play and value the importance of Hygge which is the danish concept of a feeling of happiness and belonging. We even have 'Wild Hygge' sessions in the forest to spend time in nature and a big dose of Vitamin N = Nature!
The development of our Hygge Hut has been a huge success with regular mindfulness sessions, staff development and even holistic outside agencies visit to look after our wonderful team.
