Kindergarten were treated to a fantastic workshop this morning run by Miss Tasha of Djembe Devon.
The children were invited to have a go on the African drums and they were very enthusiastic to have a go. We talked about the beat, fast, slow, tap, tap, tapping, then building up louder and faster. We discovered that if we use the palm of our hand in the middle of the drum head, it make a loud deep sound whereas if we were to tap on the outside of the head, it's quieter and lighter. We were encouraged to think of animals that we might spot and what sounds we could create for each animal; we had loud stomping reindeer and fast trotting sheep!
We counted the beats and also used rhyming sounds to make our songs.
It was lots of fun and we really enjoyed the morning. Thank you Tasha.
