It's no surprise that The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson is one of our all time favourite story books here at nursery. Our Ladybirds and Butterflies and been enjoying the story and meeting the character puppets, singing songs and making their own 'Gruffalo Crumble' with the oats in the sensory table. The children have had great fun investigating what happens when they scoop, stir and pour the oats. They are using their fine motor skills to move and handle the tools on the table. The love the familiarity of the story and can anticipate each line of the story. Reading a familiar book with lots of repetition is incredibly comforting and reassuring for young children who thrive on repetition, routine and a sense of security. Reading together strengthens bonds, builds a respect and love for books, develops language and communication, emotional well-being, confidence and empathy.
