International Day of Hygge

We thought that we would take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about our 'Hygge' approach to our mindful practice here at nursery. Here at St. Michael's we are embracing Hygge, the Danish concept of living in the moment, cosiness and a feeling of contentment. We value those small, special moments that can some times get lost ....being present, noticing the small things, completing a jigsaw, watching a spider spin her web, observing the birds in the sky, mindfulness, slowing down and living in the moment are all elements that make up our ethos. We offer a wealth of opportunities for our children to explore, discover, slow down and be calm as these support children's growth, well-being, self esteem, sense of belonging and their emotional development.

This is also an important aspect for our team too. We value each and every person and everyone has something special to contribute to our setting. We felt that on a day to highlight the importance of Hygge, it was important to recognise our team and give them a little treat and pamper. In a caring profession of giving, it was time for a quiet moment to look after ourselves.

As for the children, they've had a brilliant day and many have made dens using blankets, sheets and scarves. They even adorned the den with their pictures.

Others have enjoyed making playdough, playing in the ball pool, enjoying quiet stories, making mind calming jars and even Forest Bathing.
