Did you know that it's National Squirrel Appreciation Day on Friday 21st January? We have been learning about Squirrels this week during our woodland sessions. The children have made collages of these furry woodland friends. The named our resident (toy) squirrels Rosie Hazelnut and Gerald! They were brilliant visual aids to learn all about the habitat of a squirrel, their diet, behaviour, their babies are called Kittens and their nest is a drey. The children went on an Acorn treasure hunt and even gathered natural objects to make their very own drey. One little boy in Kindergarten explained "this is the gate for the drey."
Thank you to Sarah's Dad for giving us a disused old drey that he came across. This has been an excellent resource to show the children.
