Spaghetti play is a wonderful sensory activity that the children in Ladybirds and Butterflies have been exploring. Based on the book 'Room on the Broom' by Julia Donaldson, the sensory table was set up to honour the theme with coloured spaghetti, pictures of the characters, large tweezers, cauldrons and the book to read.
Some children loved to squish the spaghetti between their fingers. They would roll it between their finger and thumb and make a pincer grip, all wonderful pre-writing skills even at such a young age. Others enjoyed using the tweezers to pick up clumps of the spaghetti. This all benefitted the children by developing their fine motor skills, dexterity, hand eye coordination, concentration, perseverance, problem solving and imagination.
