The Very Hungry Caterpillar is Book of the Month for Butterflies
Our Butterfly group, (16 months - 2 years), are enjoying the story 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' by Eric Carle. They have been listening to the story, apple printing in the paint, making a giant butterfly for the display and enjoying sensory play in the messy room.
It might look messy but we see children benefitting hugely from sensory and messy activities by exploring how things feel, smell and taste. They are discovering different textures, exploring what happens when things are stretched, pulled apart and squashed. They are exploring colours, listening to the familiar rhythm of the story and social skills are enhanced as they explore activities with their friends. This play nurtures an awareness and understanding of the world that surrounds them. It is definitely worth the cleaning up!
